Three Branches of Government

1. Executive Branch

1.1. Head:Prime Minister(leader of the ruling party)

  • Run the day-to-day affairs of the state
  • Appoints cabinet

1.2. (Ceremonial role/ head of state)

  • Symbolic and diplomatic duties, such as signing laws, appointing judges and pardoning prisoners.

1.3. Ministries and government agencies

Responsible for defense, economy, foreign policies, and public services.

2. Legislative Branch(Knesset)

  • 120 members of knesset(MKs) elected every four years(unless early election are called)
  • Passes laws, approves the government budget, supervises the executive branch.

3. Judicial branch(Supreme Court)

  • Intrepreting and applying laws
  • Protecting civil rights and ensuring government actions comply with the basic laws.
  • The Supreme Court also serves as the High Court of Justic, hearing cases against government authorities.
