Shemot 2:6
When she opened it, she saw that it was a child, a boy crying. She took pity on it and said, “This must be a Hebrew child.”
- This confirms pharaoh's daughter's guess that the baby is a hebrew
1. Question
Why was her seeing that it was a child( יֶּ֔לֶד) mentioned? we already know who was in there?
2. Answer(s)
2.1. Rashi
- Finding a child in a basket is very rare, so it was mentioned again for emphasis
- She felt the presence of god when she saw the boy; she saw the shechina with him.
2.2. TODO Ramban
- He was a very mature child–like a teenager(נַ֖עַר) already
- It said "crying teenager". why would moses be unnatural? wouldnt that make him unfit?
- Rabbi ibn ezra said that he had developed limbs and was very handsome.
- He was also very mature mentally.
- These factors combined contributed to the princess' pity for him.
- His opinion is supported by 'Haggdah'(Who this is?)'
