1. Original Post
- OP observes male and female autism. They bring in their patterns inferred from personal experiences.
- OP splits autism into two gendered archetypes and tries to systemize social observations into a model
- They acknowledge exceptions with queer men/women.
1.1. Two Archetypes of autism
1.1.1. Male autism
- Emotionally withdrawn & cold
- Logic is a priority. Interests in system-heavy domains (STEM, philosophy, fringe logic)
- Small social networks
- Focused internally
1.1.2. Female Autism
- Emotionally expressive
- Desires connection and shares emotion
- Systemization/logic is applied to relationships instead
- Humanities-related subjects are preferred and values are priotized i nreasoning
1.1.3. Commentary
These two types of autisms are opposites.
1.1.4. Exceptions
OP says that some women/men fit the patterns f the opposite gender. These are often associated with homosexuality. This preserves the model and clusters gender conformity and autism traits as correlated deviations.
2. Responses
2.1. Social Punishment
Males are punished for autism whereas females get coddled
Anon frames the typology as socially produced instead of intrinsic.
- Male aloofness is interpreted as a defensive adaptation.
- Gender differences are attributed to differential social treatment.
2.2. Cultural Perception
>female autists She's just "quirky" and "cute," with a series of interests that she's very passionate about and is generally an introverted cutie uwu. >male autists Disgusting, degenerate "creature" of a human being who deserves not only to die alone, but should spend every waking moment of his broken life in immeasurable misery. Such a puerile manchild with those sophomoric interests. Also likely an abusive rapist and an incel.
Autism is now a moralized identity. This turns into societal labeling
2.3. Personal Anecdote
He brings up different social outcomes based on gender. His sister was tolerated and he was always ridiculed.
3. My opinion
I agree with the opinion stated in One. My anecdotal experiences confirm the idea that the failure to meet expectations as a male is moralized, while deviations can be aestheticized or softened for women. Gender asymettry is structural and role-based instead of purely evaluative. ∴ Social consequences are not just reflections of merit, but they are mediated by external expectations for how people should behave. ∴ Autistic Men may experience higher levels of shame, self-policing, or social anxiety.
