2. Why should we write essays?
- Essays function like a mirror: We can see what we wrote and check if it makes sensebi.
- Essays are a way to learn something new.
- Essays provide you with a chance to think with your brain.
3. Suggestions for writing?
3.1. Medium
- The speaker argues that pen and paper increases retention and understanding. However, it is slower and harder.
- Digital notes offer massive advantages because they are organizable and infinite.
- They are more flexible and can provide structure to your thoughts, which is useful for future writing.
3.2. Style
- Should they be formal/informal, short/long.
- The author's preferred format is the mini-essay. Each essay covers one point. He connects his essays.
- Point -> Story/Analogy/Example -> Points
- There are many styles, but these are not rigid.
3.2.1. Expository
A brief, explanatory wiki-style article. Created to describe something.
3.2.2. Argument
Opinion pieces/political commentaries.
Point -> Explain -> Evaluate -> Link
3.2.3. Analytical
Breaking things down and analyzing them. Similar to the 'Argument' style. Commonly seen in book reviews.
3.2.4. Reflective
Something personal.
3.3. Topic
- Writing about a topic that resonates with you makes your essay fun and rewarding.
- An essay is best written when it focuses on one point.
