  • Someone reportedly stole the Crown Jewels in France.
    • Mr. Fox compared the incident to something out of a movie.
  • Learned two new words today: amenable and narcoleptic.

3. Mapping Assignment

  • Assigned reading: pages 30–37.
  • Afterwards, we also read 42–43 and followed the textbook instructions:
    • Label the provinces on the ArcGIS map in ALL CAPS.
    • Label each provincial capital and the national capital.
    • Use unique icons for each (don’t use the same for province capitals and national capitals).

4.1. Conducting Academic Research

  1. Identify your topic and form clear research questions.
  2. Start broad, then narrow down.
  3. Identify keywords. avoid full questions or filler.

4.2.1. Evaluating sources

  • Always double-check– Accuracy matters
  1. Employ the CRAAP test
    • Current: How recently was this published?
    • Relevance: How does this relate to my topic?
    • Authority: Who published this? Are they qualified?
    • Accuracy: The correctness of the content
    • Purpose: Why is this information here?

4.3. Integrating your research

4.3.1. Quoting

  • Use quotation marks and in-text citations.
  • Quote sparingly. usually for definitions or key terms.

4.3.2. Paraphrasing

  • Restate ideas in your own words.
  • Always cite the original source.

4.3.3. Summarizing

  • Provide a brief overview of a work.
  • Include citations even for summaries.

4.3.4. Commenting

  • Add your personal insights, reflections, or critiques.
