1. Biodiversity

  • Biodiversity, also known as biological diversity is the variety of life in a particular ecosytem
  • Over time, life will go into places where life
  • As biodiversity progresses, a greater number of living things can be possibe inside the ecosystem
    • This creates more interactions between species in the ecosystem
    • Ensures sustainability.
    • More biodiversity = healthier ecosystem.

2. Species Loss

  • Many species are going extinct
  • Species loss is normal, but it should be slow
    • Species loss can be caused by:
  • Biodiversity an be negatively impacted by climate change, pollution, Habitat Loss & Destruction (deforestation, …)

2.1. Species Loss–Terms

Import terms to describe species at risk

  • Organisms can jump between these
Term Defintion
Extinct in a specific area Extirpated
Endangered A species facing imminent extirpation or extinction
Threatened A species that is likely to become endangered if factors influencing its survival remain constant
Special Concern A species that may become threatened or endangered due to various factors.
