  • Moses says he is not good enough to rescue the israelites.
  • God calms moses down and tells him he will be with him. He will give him signs along th way. One of these signs is the burning bush
  • Moses doesnt accept this. He spent years of his life in midian. He also doubts whether the jews will agree. He asks god how he should respond if the israelites ask him for god's name
  • God answers: I am as I am". This means he is the only one who can define his existence and he is not influenced by outside factors. He is not created by an outside factor.
  • God assumes moses is onvinced. He starts offering practical advice. He tells him to gather the israelites and tell them that hashem god of their forefathers appeared and will be with them
  • God tells moses to assemble the leaders of the jews and tell them god sees their struggles.
  • Tell them god has decided to fulfill the covenant.. He will take them out of egypt to a land of milk and honey
  • God says the jews will listen to moses without arguing. After the leaders beelieve him. Moses will ask pharoah if they can go out to the desert for 3 days. They will do their sacrifices.
    • This is an honest religious will and not an attempt to trick pharoah. God shows that Pharaoh is so hardened he won't even grant a basic human right.
    • They wanted to go out to sacrifice out of consideration–They didnt want to sacrifice a jewish holy animal
  • Not only will god get rid of the egyptians, but they will leave with something
