3.1. Unit 1: Geographic Foundations & GIS Skills

  • GIS= Geographic Information Systems
  • Formulate questions to guide investigation into issues in Canadian geography
  • Analyze data and information oon geographic issues from a variety of primary and secondary sources while ensuring that the sources reflect mmultiple perspectives
  • Apply critical thinking skills to asses credibility of relevant sources
  • Use geospatial technologies to construct and analyze datasets (Maps, charrts, images) AS part of an investigation into issues related to canadian geography
  • Use the concepts of geographic thinking when interpreting and analyzing evidence and formulate conclusions, predictions, and judgments about geographic issues in Canada

  • Study the relationships between humans and their environments. learn how societies and cultures are shaped by regions.
  • Analyze relationships between physical processes, phenomena and events and the ways in which various communities in Canada respond to and interact with them.

  • Analyze consequences for Canada of changes in some of the earths physical processes, including climate change
  • Explain how our geography contributes to Canadian identity and analyze the significance of related symbols used in Canada and internationally

  • Industry studies is a field of study where you try to understand industries, their markets, firms, and institutions?
  • Analyze characteristics of natural resources and industries in Canada and factors that affect the accessibility and use of natural resources and the location of industries
  • Describe the flow of resources that are found in Canada
  • Explain how the distribution of resources is related to the physical geography
  • Analyze relationships between location/accessibility and the mode of extraction/harvesting and use of natural resources in Canada, Including methods for clean energy production
  • Identify industries based on human capital and analyze their economic importance for Canada
  • Explain how the application of geospatial technologies is an asset in some carriers
  • Explain forms of land tenure and ownership in Canada, Including indigenous land claims and examine the connections between resource accessibility, extraction, and use in Canada.

3.4. Unit 4: Physical Geography

  • Identify the characteristics of Canada's landscapes and explain how they can be used to differentiate the various physical regions of the country
  • Analyze how natural processes formed and shaped our landscape
