Originally children did not live with their parents and instead lived in their own buildings They were educated together and took turns at various jobs that suited their ages Taught the value of each person doing their share Today there are over 270 kibbutzim

1. Kibbutz degania
Israels first kibbutsm Degania Alef was created in 1910 Located at the southern end of the kinneret(Sea of Galilee) Set the standard for kibbutzim to come Early members from this kibbutz included war hero joseph trumpeldor, poltiican david ben gurion and military legend moshe dayan, the second child born at degania Their path was not easy as they worked to setup the first kibbutz.
- They dealt with a hostile environment, inexperience with physical labor, a lack of farming knowledge, land that was neglected for centuries, limited water, and a lack of monetary funding.
