After winning the war, leaders of Israel had to deicde what type of government it would have.

  • In the first three decades of state building, the israeli government owned the majority of industries(airlines,telephone, and railway companies)
  • As the country matured, Israel adopted an economic model that focused on greater private ownership
  • Many jews having dealth with persecution in Europe wanted to ensure that their state was a democracy
    • Democracy=form of government in which power is vested in the people
  • At the same time, they wanted to ensure that the nation would have strong roots in judaism
