1. British believed they needed help from the Arabs in Arabia to defeat the Ottomans.
- British high commisioner for egypt, sir henry mcmahon secretly negotiated with hussein ibn Ali(arab leader)
- Exchanged letters from 1915-196
- Ibn ali was to lead his people to revolt against the ottomans → the arabs would then be granted independence in territories taken away from the turks.
- Important to note that Palestine was note mentioned directly in the letters
