June 6 1982 the IDF moved 80.000 troops into southern Lebanon to drive out the terrorists

  • Goals:
    1. Establish a buffer zone between the Israel-Lebanon border so that Israeli citizens would remain safe
    2. Kick the PLO out of Lebanon

Israel seized Beirut, which began to provoke international criticism August 1982, yasser arafat, leader of the PLO was expelled from Beirut to Tunisia.

  • Many Lebanese Muslims were angry about Israel's military presence in their country and began to attack IDF forces.
