Shemot 2:20

וַיֹּ֥אמֶר אֶל־בְּנֹתָ֖יו וְאַיּ֑וֹ לָ֤מָּה זֶּה֙ עֲזַבְתֶּ֣ן אֶת־הָאִ֔ישׁ קִרְאֶ֥ן ל֖וֹ וְיֹ֥אכַל לָֽחֶם׃ He said to his daughters, “Where is he then? Why did you leave the man? Ask him in to break bread.”

1. Explanation

  • And ruel told his daughters:
    • "Where is this man? why have ypu left him? Bring im so he can eat with us"
    • Ruel wants to do the mitzvah of Recognizing good. He questions his daughter's capability for this mitzvah
    • He wants to eat with moses and to marry off one of his daughters
    • This is an example of the mitzvah Recognizing good and Hosting Guests

"Why did you leave him", ruel says that moses' story of helping them of the well reminds him of our forefather jacob, and is dissapointed at the daughters missed opprotunity to meet a relative of jacob.
