וַיֹּ֣אמֶר מֹשֶׁ֔ה אָסֻֽרָה־נָּ֣א וְאֶרְאֶ֔ה אֶת־הַמַּרְאֶ֥ה הַגָּדֹ֖ל הַזֶּ֑ה מַדּ֖וּעַ לֹא־יִבְעַ֥ר הַסְּנֶֽה׃ Moses said, “I must turn aside to look at this marvelous sight; why doesn’t the bush burn up?”

2. Explanation

  • Moshe turns to see the bush not being consumed
  • He does not know how this is possilbe and is shocked and very curious about this scene.

2.1. Commentary

2.1.1. אֶת־הַמַּרְאֶ֥ה

  • This is the first time in the tanakh where god used his prophets. It was the first opportunity for god to send a message It signaled that moshe is someone god considers moshe as better and their special reationship

2.1.2. "Thorned bush" (see: Shemot 3:2)

  1. Rabbi shimeon asks: "Why did he reveal himself from a bush"
    • in a thorned bush, the thorns are pointed inwards. They allow birds to perch and built nests, but escaping is hard because of the thorns. This is similar to the jews experience in egypt.
