Fossil Fuels
* school science1. What are Fossil Fuels?
Fossil fuels are natural energy sources formed from the remains of ancient plants and animals that were buried and compressed over millions of years.
- Common examples: coal, oil (petroleum), and natural gas.
- These fuels are rich in carbon and hydrogen, which release large amounts of energy when burned in Combustion Engines.
- The burning process releases carbon dioxide (CO₂), returning stored carbon to the atmosphere.
2. Key Facts
- Fossil fuels are nonrenewable resources — once used, they take millions of years to form again.
- Their use has powered human civilization but also contributes to global warming and air pollution.
