  • Invasive species is when we introduce organisms that do not belong into a local ecosystem
  • This damages the local food chain/web and increases competition
  • An invasive species is a non-native species whose intentional or accidental introduction negatively impacts the natural environment
    • They can change species dynamics within an ecosystem
    • Could potentially cause/bring diseases
    • Competition with native species for food can cause native populations to decline
    • They can also sometimes negatively impact biodiversity.

1. Controlling invasive species

1.1. Chemical Control

  • Pesticides are used against unwanted population
  • May kill non-target native species

1.2. Mechanical Control

  • Physical barriers, hunting, and trapping of unwanted populations
  • Entails physically isolating and hunting an organism.

1.3. Biological Control

  • Intentionally introducing organisms to control invasive species
  • New species might become new invaders.

2. Elsewhere

2.2. In my garden
