Three Layers Of Dukkha

* philosophy

1. Dukkha-dukkha

  • This is the most obvious form of dukkha
  • Its characterized by physical and emotional pain

2. Viparinama-dukkha

  • This is the more subltle form of dukkha. Its the dissatisfaction that arises from the fact that all pleasant experiences are Anicca(Impermanence). THe pain of change is not in the experience, but in our clinging to it.

3. Sankhara-dukkha

  • This is hte most existential form of dukkha. It's the feeling that no matter what we do, what we achieve, or what we acquire, we can never find a permanent state of lasting contentment. This is directly related to Anatta(No-self), as it arises from the illusion that there is a fixed "I" who is separate and needs to "find" something to be complete.
