Anatta(No-self)
* philosophy1. Anatta is the idea that there is no permanent fixed self.
What we perceive as 'self" is a constantly changing collection of interdependent parts. Anatta is one of The three marks of existence.
2. The five skandhas
To explain what the "self" is not, we break down a human into five skandhas(aggregates). The illusion of a self is when we identify with one or more of these constantly changing skandhas, believing that "I am my body", or "I am consciousness". This is explained well by The Chariot Analogy.
3. Its not about being noting, but realizing that the separate self is not the ultimate reality.
The illusion of a separate self is what creates the send of subject and object. By deeply understanding anatta, you can move past the egos constant struggle for existence, recognition, and pleasure. The realization of no-self leads to compassion, as you realize that there is no separation between yourself and others
