1. A constant state of change

Anicca is the simple observation that everything is in a constant of change. Nothing--absolutely nothing in this world is permanent, stable or fixed. This includes:

  • Physical objects: Your body, a mountain, a star. They are all subject to decay, erosion, and eventual dissolution. They are always changing
  • Mental states: Your thoughts and feelings. They arise and pass away, never staying the same for a single moment
  • Relationships and circumstances Relationships, social status, and even your own personality. They are all in a state of continuous flux
