וַיִּשְׁמַ֤ע פַּרְעֹה֙ אֶת־הַדָּבָ֣ר הַזֶּ֔ה וַיְבַקֵּ֖שׁ לַהֲרֹ֣ג אֶת־מֹשֶׁ֑ה וַיִּבְרַ֤ח מֹשֶׁה֙ מִפְּנֵ֣י פַרְעֹ֔ה וַיֵּ֥שֶׁב בְּאֶֽרֶץ־מִדְיָ֖ן וַיֵּ֥שֶׁב עַֽל־הַבְּאֵֽר׃
When Pharaoh learned of the matter, he sought to kill Moses; but Moses fled from Pharaoh. He arrived in the land of Midian, and sat down beside a well.
2. Explanation
- and pharoah found out about the events that happened–he found out about moses' crime.
- moses' actions are now known and pharoah wants to kill him
- He fled specifically to a well because it was a central place. He went there to meet many people, gather information, and maybe plan the next step
- People came to pharoah and told him his favorite grandson moshe is not who pharoah thinks he is–His advisors inform him of moses' murder and he is reminded of the various incidents and prophecies regarding moses(see: Shemot 1:22)
2.1. Alternative explanation
- There is another reason he went to the well
- This was where his great grandfather jacob(father of levi, father of amram, father of moses) stopped when he fled from esau
- He was planning for the future
- Moses' character is calculated, decision-making, logical, and planning
