* tanakh schoolוַתֹּ֣אמֶר אֲחֹתוֹ֮ אֶל־בַּת־פַּרְעֹה֒ הַאֵלֵ֗ךְ וְקָרָ֤אתִי לָךְ֙ אִשָּׁ֣ה מֵינֶ֔קֶת מִ֖ן הָעִבְרִיֹּ֑ת וְתֵינִ֥ק לָ֖ךְ אֶת־הַיָּֽלֶד׃ Then his sister said to Pharaoh’s daughter, “Shall I go and get you a Hebrew nurse to suckle the child for you?”
1. Question: Is Miriam's behavior logical?
- She ties herself to the baby
- She risks her own life
- She risks the baby
- In my opinion, this behavior was not wise.
1.1. What this reveals about Miriam's character
- She believed in her family
- She is ready to sacrifice her life–She displayed courage
- She is smart and responsible.
2. Question: Why did she offer a jewish woman?
After seeing him cry, the pricness understood he was hungry. She and her maidservants tried to feed him. However, it id not work, so her only option was to find a jewish woman. The commentators offer two reasons for pharoah's daughter's failure to feed the child:
- He refused to suckle because he had a future with the shechina(divine presence)
- He refused because he was a prophet and did not want to be fed by a non-jewish woman
